‘He’s Not Patrick Mahomes’ – NFL Analyst Believes Jaguars Are Sparking Trade Interest for $275,000,000 QB

NFL analyst shares a hypothesis on how the Jaguars are sparking trade interest for their Pro Bowl QB.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had Trevor Lawrence as their starting quarterback since drafting him first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, in his four-season stint, Lawrence has led them to the playoffs only once. That was during the 2022 season when they lost to the Chiefs in the divisional playoffs.

Now, after a disappointing end to their 2024 campaign, this NFL analyst shared his thoughts on the Jaguars potentially parting ways with Trevor Lawrence.

NFL Analyst Mike Florio Believes in Jaguars Sparking Trade Interest for Trevor Lawrence

On last Friday’s ‘NFL on NBC episode, ‘ Mike Florio discussed the reports about the Pittsburgh Steelers reaching out to the Jaguars to trade for Trevor Lawrence potentially. Big Ten basketball reporter Bryan Burr was the first to report this news.

While the Jaguars have denied such reports, Mike Florio believes they are indirectly trying to spark trade rumors for Lawrence. He believes that this situation would help them assess what kind of offer other teams would make for the quarterback.

“I can tell you this. The Steelers would say they never called. The Steelers would say we don’t even know who to call. They don’t have a General Manager…We’re not calling teams about quarterbacks.”

“I think this whole thing, somebody in the Jaguars Organization wants to spark a trade market potentially for Lawrence. Let’s get people calling. Let’s see what people offer. Cause he is not untouchable…He’s not Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. A few players you’re not going to trade them under any circumstances.

“There might be an offer big enough to get the Jaguars to act on it. Of course, they are going to deny it. But now everyone knows. If you’re looking for a quarterback and you like Trevor Lawrence, maybe you give us a call. Maybe you make us an offer we can’t refuse.”

Before the 2024 season, Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year $275 million extension with the Jaguars that runs through 2030. The extension has a full no-trade clause, meaning Lawrence can decide his own future.

However, his 2024 campaign was marred by injuries, resulting in limited playing time on the field. The Jaguars finished with a 4-13 record, ranking third in the AFC South. Trevor Lawrence also dismissed these reports on Monday during an appearance on the “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams. He stated that he is currently in a happy place and is not looking to play for the Steelers.

Lawrence Says New Jacksonville HC Liam Coen Has Faith in His Abilities

The team decided to fire Doug Pederson following the disappointing 2024 season. They brought in Liam Coen as his replacement, hoping to make them a strong playoff contender.

On “Up & Adams,” Trevor Lawrence said that Coen reached out to him after the trade reports and reassured him of his value to the team.

“Liam texted me, actually, I guess a day after it came out, and Liam said, ‘Shouldn’t even have to say this, but that’s not coming from us.’ I was like, yeah, I figured.’ So we’re all good. He didn’t even have to send that. There was no doubt on my side.”

Trevor Lawrence also said that he plans to win a Super Bowl with the team. It will be interesting to see how he performs after rehabilitating from his injuries and if Coen can provide him with more offensive options on the field.
