Jets Trade for Morgan Moses: Gang Green Adds Ex-Ravens OT To Block for Aaron Rodgers

    Published on

The Jets got more offensive line help for Aaron Rodgers on Wednesday by working out a trade for Ravens right tackle Morgan Moses.

The New York Jets continued to revamp their beleaguered offensive line on Wednesday by adding their second former Baltimore Ravens lineman in as many days.

Gang Green agreed to acquire right tackle Morgan Moses to block for Aaron Rodgers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. New York already signed ex-Ravens guard John Simpson early Tuesday morning.

Why the Jets Acquired OT Morgan Moses From the Ravens

The Jets didn’t have to give up much to land the 33-year-old Moses, who started 16 games for New York during his one-year stint with the club in 2021.

Here are the complete trade terms, per Schefter:

    • Jets acquire: OT Morgan Moses, 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 134)
    • Ravens acquire: 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 112), 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 218)

The Jets’ offensive line was among the NFL‘s worst in 2023, ranking bottom four in pass-blocking and run-blocking win rates. General manager Joe Douglas had no choice but to overhaul the club’s front five before Rodgers returned to the starting lineup next season.

Tackles Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton are free agents and are not expected to return to New York. The Jets already released left guard Laken Tomlinson, a 34-game starter over the past two seasons.

Now, New York’s 2024 OL is starting to take shape. Simpson and Moses are the new additions and will line up at left guard and right tackle, respectively.

Moses’ presence will keep Alijah Vera-Tucker at right guard, while 2023 second-round pick Joe Tippmann will play center. That leaves left tackle as the lone remaining void along the Jets’ front five, although additional depth should also be on the agenda.

Moses, a third-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, is entering his 11th pro campaign. While he’s never made an All-Pro or Pro Bowl team, he’s been the definition of reliable, making 144 starts while rarely missing time due to injury.

Moses was a solid contributor to the Ravens’ offensive line in 2023. Forty-one OTs played at least 900 snaps last season, per Pro Football Focus. Moses allowed the sixth-fewest pressures (26) among that group while receiving PFF’s sixth-highest run-blocking grade.

    Morgan Moses Contract Details

Moses is entering the final season of a three-year, $15 million deal he signed with the Ravens before the 2022 campaign.

His $5.5 million base salary will transfer to the Jets. That’s the only cash New York will be responsible for on Moses’ contract.

He doesn’t have workout bonuses, per-game roster bonuses, or incentives tied to his deal. None of Moses’ base salary is guaranteed, but the Jets clearly wouldn’t have acquired him were they uncomfortable with his price point.

Baltimore will take on $1.46 million in dead money by trading Moses. The Ravens gave him a $4.38 million signing bonus, which was prorated over the three years of his deal.
