New York Jets Opponents 2024: Dolphins and Bills Come to Town, Visit 49ers and Steelers

    Published on

The full 2024 NFL schedule is not out just yet, but every team knows the opponents they will face. Who will the New York Jets square off with in 2024?

Although the NFL has not yet released a full 2024 schedule with times and dates for the upcoming season’s games, we do know which opponents all 32 teams will face in 2024, along with the split of home and road games.

The New York Jets will host eight teams at MetLife Stadium and visit nine teams on the road, including two trips West, to face Arizona and San Francisco.

New York will face six playoff teams, the same number from 2023, including the Bills and the Dolphins. The remaining four opponents will be split — the Texans and Rams at home and the 49ers and Steelers on the road.

The Jets had sky-high expectations for 2023 after the addition of four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers in the offseason with Super Bowl aspirations in mind.

Instead, Rodgers went down with a season-ending injury just a few plays into the year, leaving the Jets to have a rollercoaster of a campaign.

The team will play the Bills, Dolphins, and Patriots twice in the 2024 season.

The Jets started their 2023 season with a bang, beating Buffalo, 22-16, in overtime at MetLife Stadium on a walk-off punt return TD by rookie Xavier Gipson.

The Bills evened the series with a 32-6 win in Orchard Park, New York, during Week 11. These teams have defended their home turf each of the last two years, splitting the season series in 2022 and 2023.

Miami returned to the playoffs for the second-straight season as a Wild Card after losing to the Bills in Week 18. They swept the Jets, who played three quarterbacks — Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Trevor Siemian — between both games and held New York to 13 points.

After losing to New England in Week 3, 15-10, the Jets snapped their 15-game losing streak to the Patriots with a Week 18 win.

Notably, there will not be a Rodgers-Packers reunion this season.

On the road, the Jets will face the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan’s team finished as the NFC’s No. 1 seed and took a trip to the Super Bowl last year. Its high-powered offense is run by QB Brock Purdy, who led the NFL with a 113.0 passer rating, and RB Christian McCaffery, the league leader in rushing yards (1,459).

The team will face another challenge in the Steelers on the road. The Steelers are built around a tough defense that features T.J. Watt, who led the NFL with 19 sacks in the 2023 season. Pittsburgh played three quarterbacks en route to a playoff berth.

Early on, the Jets did their best to stay afloat in the 2023 campaign with a 4-3 start, even without their star QB under center. However, it was tough sledding since early November as they lost seven of their last 10 games.

New York will look to improve heavily this season with the return of Rodgers, as the franchise hopes he will influence the Jets’ Super Bowl aspirations. His leadership and skill set could be the catalyst the team needs.

However, there’s work to be done in the offseason, particularly in enhancing the receiving corps and offensive line to support Rodgers.
