New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Believes He Could Play Up to 4 More Years

    Published on

At 40 years old and coming off a torn Achilles, New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers still believes he has plenty of years left in his NFL career.

The New York Jets are coming off of a 7-10 season and are expecting bigger things this upcoming season. It mainly hinges on quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ return from an Achilles tear, an injury that he suffered in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL regular season.

Aaron Rodgers Hopeful To Play 4 More Seasons

Rodgers isn’t of the mindset that this won’t be his last season, despite being a 40-year-old, 19-year NFL veteran. That’s without adding the Achilles tear to the equation.

Rodgers appeared on the Look Into It Podcast with Eddie Bravo to discuss his career goals.

“I got back on the practice field late in the season and couldn’t get to a top speed sprinting, but really been in a good place rehab-wise, from the start, and feeling really good,” Rodgers said. “I’m hopeful I can play two or three or four more years, but you need to have some good fortune in there too.”

The 40-year-old has put up some gaudy stats over the years, completing 5,001 of 7,661 (65.3%) of passes for 59,055 passing yards, 475 touchdown passes, and 105 interceptions. Rodgers is also an accomplished rusher, with 719 carries for 3,466 rushing yards (4.8 yards per carry) and 35 rushing touchdowns.

Rodgers is a 10-time Pro Bowl selection, a four-time All-Pro pick, won Super Bowl XLV (and Super Bowl MVP), is a four-time Associated Press MVP and four-time Pro Football Writers Association MVP, on the Hall of Fame All-2010s Decade Team, won the 2011 PFWA Offensive Player of the Year award, and is a two-time Sporting News Offensive Player of the Year.

He also wouldn’t be the first quarterback to play well into his 40s. His Green Bay Packers predecessor, Brett Favre, completed his 19-year career with the Minnesota Vikings as a 41-year-old. Drew Brees, whom Rodgers bested with a 3-2 record head-to-head, played until he was 42.

Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon played 16 years in the NFL and was 43 when he retired. Former Miami Hurricane Vinny Testaverde had a 21-year career and retired at 44 years old.

Rodgers has a head-to-head record of 2-3 with Tom Brady, who ended his career at 45, prior to the 2023 NFL season. Only Steve DeBerg (45), John Nesser (45), and George Blanda (48) retired later in their careers.
