2022 was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the New York Giants under first-year head coach Brian Daboll. Instead, they exceeded all expectations and made the playoffs. Now, the Giants are tasked with trying to improve despite overperforming the previous year. It’s a tricky line to toe. Does that present opportunities with their betting lines?

New York Giants Offense
Heading into the 2022 season, the Giants were ready to move on from Daniel Jones. They declined his fifth-year option and fully expected to give up on him after a transitional year.
Instead, Daboll was able to get the most out of Jones. The quarterback limited his turnovers and became a prolific runner. As a result, Jones earned himself a large three-year extension.
The Giants were also able to work things out with Saquon Barkley on a one-year deal. However, New York’s biggest offseason acquisition was trading for tight end Darren Waller.
It was a savvy move by general manager Joe Schoen. The Giants needed WR help, but it just didn’t exist this season. So, he did the next best thing and traded for a TE who is a glorified WR. New York’s offense certainly looks better heading into this season.
New York Giants Defense
After struggling against the pass last season, the Giants used their first-round pick on Deonte Banks. He will join Adoree’ Jackson to hopefully form quite the formidable secondary. They’ll add to a defense that already features potential stars in Kayvon Thibodeaux and Leonard Williams.
With a solid pass rush, this unit has the potential to be much improved compared to last season.
One Betting Trend To Know
The Giants were undefeated (5-0) against the spread (92.3% ROI) after a loss in the 2022 season — tied for best in the NFL; the league average, per Inside Edge, was .483.
Best Bet for the Giants in 2023
It’s no secret to anyone that the Giants overperformed last season. They won nine games, made the playoffs, and won a playoff game.
Yet, New York’s win total for 2023 is set at just 7.5. That is despite the team having gotten better this offseason.
With that said, the NFC is severely trailing the AFC in terms of top-end teams. Outside of the Eagles, 49ers, and Cowboys, there really isn’t a single team we can confidently say is likely to make the playoffs.
Only six teams have betting odds as favorites to make the playoffs. Seven teams make the playoffs. That means there is a 100% chance a team with plus odds is getting in. Why not the Giants? They did it last year.
