How Many Picks Do the Saints Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Currently, the Saints have eight picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ahead of the NFL trade deadline, the Saints made a massive splash by sending Marshon Lattimore to the Commanders in exchange for a third-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and the return of their sixth-round pick.
New Orleans traded its Round 5 selection to the Washington Commanders in exchange for DT John Ridgeway III and a 2025 sixth-round pick.
The Saints’ original Round 7 selection was part of the trade that shipped defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Philadelphia Eagles. In return for Gardner-Johnson and a 2025 seventh-rounder, the Saints received a 2023 fifth-rounder and a 2024 sixth-rounder.
Interestingly, the Saints haven’t had more than seven picks in a given NFL Draft cycle since the 2015 NFL Draft. They’ve historically amassed less capital on average than other teams, which could be an ancillary factor for the team’s inability to remain a contender.
What Are the Saints’ Biggest Needs in 2025?
Quarterback looms large for the Saints, even if Derek Carr is the team’s starter for all official intents and purposes. Most independent rankings would concede that Carr isn’t even a top-half starter in the NFL, and yet, New Orleans has shelled out the big bucks for him.
The Saints don’t have a favorable out in Carr’s contract until 2026, but another year of middling performance could quicken the team’s succession plan. Especially if the team falters, and Dennis Allen is let go, a quarterback change would be a natural byproduct of a regime change.
But beyond QB, there are other needs on the horizon as well. The offensive line remains an unstable unit. Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk will miss the 2024 season and could be headed toward an untimely retirement. Taliese Fuaga has excitement behind him at left tackle, but he’s unproven there, too.
Elsewhere on offense, tight end Juwan Johnson will be a free agent in 2025. Jamaal Williams will be a free agent in 2026, and Kendre Miller’s health may impact his ability to be an adequate replacement.
On defense, the Saints aren’t much better off. Carl Granderson was extended on the edge recently, but Cameron Jordan is aging, and Chase Young and Tanoh Kpassagnon are both set to be free agents in 2025. Nathan Shepherd and Khalen Saunders will be free agents in 2026, as will former All-Pro linebacker Demario Davis.
Finally, while the selection of Kool-Aid McKinstry helps to solidify the cornerback room, Paulson Adebo’s impending free agency in 2025 could leave a void on the boundary.
