Netflix’s next NFL-themed docuseries is nearly here after the streaming service announced the premiere date of “Receiver” on Thursday.
It’s the latest documentary-style sports series from Netflix and the second one specifically focused on NFL players as it hopes to continue the success of its predecessors.
What Is “Receiver” and Who Is Starring?
“Receiver” was filmed during this past NFL season and will be released on Netflix in July.
The docuseries follows NFL wide receivers Justin Jefferson, Davante Adams, Deebo Samuel, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, along with tight end George Kittle throughout their seasons, both on and off the field.
This is Netflix’s second NFL docuseries after it released the highly successful “Quarterback” series in 2023.
That iteration featured NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota during the 2022 NFL season. There was a special focus on Mahomes, who won the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award and Super Bowl 57.
Rumors swirled of a potential Season 2 for the quarterback-focused series, but various challenges appear to have emerged during the process. One of those may have been a lack of quarterbacks willing to take part and allow extensive access into their lives on and off the field.
Netflix instead pivoted to a series featuring several of the NFL’s top receivers instead.
How To Watch the ‘Receiver’ Docuseries
The docuseries will be available to stream on Netflix starting July 10, Netflix announced Thursday.
An official trailer for the series was also released Thursday, highlighting snippets of quotes from all five of the series’ starring players.

Top Storylines To Watch
There should be plenty of interesting storylines to follow from the various players’ paths during the 2023 season.
Jefferson endured a tough season with the Minnesota Vikings, during which he missed several games due to injury for the first time in his NFL career, and his quarterback, Cousins, eventually had a season-ending injury of his own.
Kittle and Samuel were part of a highly successful season for the San Francisco 49ers. They finished atop the NFC in the regular season and advanced all the way to Super Bowl 58 before suffering a 25-22 loss there to the Kansas City Chiefs, the second Super Bowl defeat for both Kittle and Samuel.
St. Brown was part of a historic season for the Detroit Lions, one in which they won their first division title since 1993 and reached their first NFC Championship Game since 1991.
Adams and the Las Vegas Raiders had an up-and-down season of their own, which featured some turmoil among the players before taking a bit of an upward trend late in the year under interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
All of that, along with looks into players’ personal lives, could make for another fascinating docuseries.
