Why Is Reggie Miller Leaving TNT? 5-Time NBA All-Star Makes Bold Career Move After 20 Years

The end of the NBA on TNT is near after the league didn’t accept the network’s offer for one of the packages in its new 11-year media rights deal. It also means the end of Reggie Miller’s 20-year tenure with the company, and the Hall Of Famer is now moving to NBC.

Reggie Miller Signs With NBC After TNT Loses Media Rights Deal

TNT’s “Inside The NBA” has been one of the most popular sports shows in the world, but it will no longer air on the network from next season after the league rejected the network’s offer of $1.8 billion per year for its new media rights package. The NBA signed agreements with ABC/ESPN, Amazon, and NBC for an 11-year deal and claimed that TNT’s offer didn’t fully match the terms of Amazon’s contract.

TNT’s media rights expire at the end of this season, marking the end of Miller’s 20-year tenure with the network. The five-time NBA All-Star joined TNT as an NBA analyst after his 18-year-long playing career with the Indiana Pacers in 2005.

Miller also appeared on “Inside The NBA” alongside Chris Webber from 2008-11. Since then, he has been the lead NBA analyst for TNT and will take over the same role at NBC when the league returns to the network next season.

“It’s good to be HOME, NBC Sports…and hello, Peacock! Some of my most memorable moments have been on NBC, and I’m looking forward to creating more,” said Miller.

NBC last held media rights during Miller’s playing career from 1990 to 2002, and as it returns alongside the Hall of Famer on the network, executive producer Sam Flood called it a fitting reunion.

“Having provided so many memorable moments on NBC during his playing days, it’s only fitting that Reggie will join our team as the NBA returns to NBC and debuts on Peacock. As basketball fans know, not only was Reggie one of the game’s greatest shooters and clutch performers, but he was also one of its most entertaining players with a unique combination of skill and swagger. He has successfully brought those traits to his broadcasting career and consistently provides viewers with in-depth analysis while pulling no punches.”

Jamal Crawford will join Miller as game analyst, while Mike Tirico will be the lead play-by-play voice. NBC is also reportedly hiring Hall of Fame finalist Carmelo Anthony as a studio analyst.
