The Golden State Warriors are no strangers to winning. With four NBA championships over the last 10 years, the Warriors ruled the league with an iron fist for an extended period. While the last two years haven’t been as kind to the Warriors, their recent trade for Jimmy Butler has seemingly motivated everyone on the team.
That motivation extends to both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, who have been vocal about their appreciation for Butler’s confidence and presence since his arrival. Green is notorious for speaking his mind, and on the All-Star pregame telecast, he was very bold in his statement that the Warriors will win the NBA title this season.
Stephen Curry Responds to Draymond Green’s Declaration
Jalen Rose, Vince Carter, and Adam Lefkoe asked Green to clarify his statement, to which he doubled down on his assessment.
“I’m sorry, I said I think we’re going to win a championship, but I lied. We are going to win the championship. That’s what’s going to happen.”
After winning the 2025 All-Star MVP award, Curry spoke to the media in the postgame press conference, acknowledging what Green said in a way that only he could.
"I got Draymond on the telecast guaranteeing we're winning a championship." 😂

“I’m excited, I got Draymond on the telecast guaranteeing we’re winning a championship. I love expectations, having something to play for. He’s lighting the fire for sure.”
Curry would slyly smirk before continuing with a more serious tone.
“All jokes aside, I think we finished the last four games 3-1. We have a lot to figure out still, I think 27 games or so left to make a push. All we want is to get into a playoff series and have a fighting chance to be a tough out against anybody in the West, and we’ve got a good opportunity in front of us to do that.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge, and it’s basically a playoff game every single night.”
Can Golden State Make a Run for the No. 6 Seed?
The Warriors are currently 28-27 and in the 10th seed, but there’s only a 3.5-game difference between where they are now and the No. 6 seed. The goal seems to be for the Warriors to rise up to sixth in order to guarantee themselves a playoff series and to avoid the play-in again after their embarrassing loss to the Sacramento Kings last season.
With Butler now in the fold, can Golden State use these last 27 games to get things right? If they can find the same momentum and energy that helped them start the season 12-3, Green’s words might start to look a little different once playoff time begins.
