Tristan Thompson Destroys Raptors HC Darko Rajaković, Toronto’s Front Office After Getting Called Out For Late-Game Antics

NBA games are often decided long before the final buzzer, but sometimes, the drama lingers until the last second. That was certainly the case during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ blowout win over the Toronto Raptors, when Tristan Thompson’s late-game antics set off a fiery postgame exchange.

With the game well out of reach for Toronto, Thompson threw down a two-handed dunk in the dying seconds of the game, bringing an abrupt end to the 131-108 blowout. In basketball culture, scoring in the final seconds of a lopsided game is generally seen as disrespectful — an unwritten rule that players across the league are well aware of.

Unsurprisingly, Thompson’s actions didn’t sit well with the Raptors, who confronted him immediately, leading to a tense situation that required separation from both teams.

Tristan Thompson Fires Back at Toronto Raptors Coach

Toronto head coach Darko Rajaković didn’t hold back in his postgame comments after the incident, calling out Thompson’s actions as classless.

“I think what Tristan did there was no class and disrespectful… I love when my team stands up for themselves,” Rajaković said after the game.

Thompson, never one to back down from a challenge, fired back on social media with a scathing response aimed not just at Rajaković but at the Raptors’ entire front office.

“You wanna full court press with under a minute left in the game when you get cracked by 30 this will happen to you. Lose for draft lottery and be happy buddy boy. Hopefully you and most of your guys see the light at the end of Bobby [Webster] and Masai [Ujiri] long term plan. Bless up stay warm in MY CITY 😉😁.”

The tweet made it clear. Thompson felt the Raptors had no right to be upset, especially after playing aggressive defense late in a game they had no chance of winning. If they were going to press full court while down by 30, he had every right to finish with a dunk.

Thompson Also Takes Shots at Raptors’ Front Office

What Thompson said in his tweet extended beyond the game itself. His jab at Raptors executives Bobby Webster and Masai Ujiri pointed to a larger issue — Toronto’s uncertain direction as a franchise.

Despite recently trading for superstar forward Brandon Ingram and signing him to a massive nine-figure extension, the Raptors remain one of the bottom five teams in the NBA standings and are likely headed for another lottery pick. Thompson’s statement seemed to mock the long-term vision the front office has laid out.

Adding another layer to the drama is Thompson’s connection to Toronto. Born and raised in nearby Brampton, the veteran big man has always taken pride in his Canadian roots. By referring to the city as “MY CITY” in his tweet, he staked his claim, making it clear that he wasn’t about to take criticism from the Raptors lightly.

While the late-game drama dominated the headlines, the deeper issue for the Raptors remains their ongoing struggles to win games. With uncertainty surrounding the direction of the franchise, it’s clear that frustration is building. For Thompson and the Cavaliers, their trip to Canada ended with a win and plenty of extra motivation for the next time these two teams meet, whether in the playoffs or next season.
