Stephen Curry’s NBA career, spanning 15 years, has helped him amass several trophies and large paychecks. The future Hall of Famer, however, isn’t satisfied and has dipped his toes in an upstart league.
The Golden State Warriors’ point guard has joined a whole list of celebrity investors in the Unrivaled 3×3 League.
Stephen Curry Becomes the Newest Investor in the Unrivaled League
The Unrivaled League operates on a fast, action-packed version of women’s basketball, with each side playing with three players on the court. The inaugural season of the league features some of the biggest WNBA stars, such as Angel Reese and Kate Martin.
Unrivaled also boasts the highest average salary in U.S. women’s professional sports. To date, the league has raised $35 million from some of the country’s most high-profile names. Now, the four-time NBA champion has also joined that list.
The two-time NBA MVP has amassed a net worth of $240 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, and is using his hard-earned dollars well.
“I am incredibly proud to be joining the Unrivaled family as the league continues to set a new standard for how women’s professional sports should operate- empowering athletes and ensuring they have a real stake in their own success,” Curry said in a statement sent to the league.
“Unrivaled is not just innovating the way we play basketball, but also how we value and invest in the athletes who drive the game forward.”
Apart from Curry, bigshots like Alex Morgan, Carmelo Anthony, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Coco Gauff, Michael Phelps, Ashton Kutcher, and others are also investors in the upstart league.
Steve Kerr Makes Feelings Clear on Curry’s New Job
On March 10, Monday, it was revealed that Curry had accepted a role with his alma mater, Davidson College, as assistant general manager for the basketball programs. Fans wondered whether this signaled the 36-year-old’s retirement plans.
However, the Warriors head coach labeled Curry’s new job as a “ceremonial title” but also expressed his worries regarding the 11-time NBA All-Star’s time away from the training field due to this job.
“If he asks to leave for a game to go scout college, I’ll probably say no. But it is Steph Curry, so I’ll probably say yes. I just hope he doesn’t ask,” Kerr said.
By accepting the role of the assistant GM at Davidson, Curry has become the first active player in U.S. major pro sports history to take an administrative or executive job with an NCAA team.
