Shaquille O’Neal Makes Feelings Clear About Warriors Icon Stephen Curry Entering GOAT Debate

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is making a case for another entry into the league’s much-discussed GOAT debate: Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry.

Having played with some of the greatest basketball players ever, O’Neal is making a case for Curry to be added to the conversation.

Shaquille O’Neal Wants Stephen Curry To Be Added to the GOAT Conversation

Though some fans continue to make a case for the Warriors star, many don’t put him on the same tier as LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. They refer to him as the greatest shooter of all time but won’t put him in the running for the GOAT label.

Well, O’Neal is now demanding that Curry be added to that mix.

While on “Inside the NBA,” O’Neal explained his reasoning.

“As the supreme leader of the big man alliance, I demand you fans to start putting Steph Curry in that greatest of all time conversation. Just start putting him in the conversation. There’s Mike, Kobe, LeBron… Start putting Steph in that conversation. I demand it,” O’Neal said.

“I’ve played against Mike, played with Kobe, played with and against LeBron — they’re all great. But at some point, we’re gonna have to put Steph Curry in that category. I’m not saying he is [the GOAT], but let’s just have the conversation. I like all the internet talk and the barbershop talk, but I ain’t ever seen nothing like that before, and nobody has.”
Of course, O’Neal had to mention Curry’s four NBA titles, three of which were won against LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Curry’s fourth championship win came in 2022 against the Boston Celtics, with Curry lifting the team after a disappointing patch after the 2019 NBA Finals loss.

Curry Continues to Make History During 2024-25 NBA Season

While Curry and the Warriors are looking to bag another title this season, the two-time NBA MVP continues to make history.

A legend at Maddison Square Garden, Curry returned to the venue for their game against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, March 4. Curry hasn’t lost a game at MSG in 12 years, a streak which continued after the Warriors’ 114-102 win.

Curry led the team with 28 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists while shooting 5-9 from the three-point line. After the game, he raved about the electrifying atmosphere at MSG.

“Madison Square Garden speaks for itself. It just has unique, authentic basketball energy. Everyone’s anticipating great basketball,” he said postgame.

Curry also passed NBA Hall of Famer Hal Greer on the NBA’s career made field goals list. He is currently 31st on the list with 8,510 made field goals made, and he needs 57 more to surpass Ray Allen for the No. 30.

Next up, Curry and the Warriors will face the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday, March 6.
