Fans consistently criticize the NBA All-Star weekend, to the point that many wonder what its point is. The events don’t hold too much appeal because the stars don’t take the events seriously, primarily because they don’t want to get hurt.
The fans don’t like seeing this because it’s not fun to watch. Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant not only called out the fans for their complaints but also called for the NBA to make a drastic decision.
Kevin Durant Bashes Fans While Saying It’s Time To Cancel All-Star Weekend
Durant took to his X account to call out fans for how much they complain about the All-Star Game, writing, “I think it’s more fun to complain about the nba than to actually watch it. Crazy, cancel all star weekend and let’s just give everybody a break since we’re so miserable around this time…”

When a fan responded, writing that the issues were less about the game and more about how coverage went last night, Durant agreed but further elaborated on his point.
“I get it. My point is, fans complain about EVERYTHING. Like nothing is good enough for the fans right now. Only thing they enjoy is playoffs, trade deadline, free agency and when players beef with each other lol,” Durant wrote.

When a fan responded by claiming that players aren’t trying in the regular season, Durant used that to explain why he believes it’s best for the NBA to get rid of the All-Star Game.
“(You) complaining about injuries now. Wow the nba has spoiled (you), that’s why we need a break, a week without basketball would have (you) appreciating the product when it’s back on,” Durant wrote.

NBA players need a break, too, which is why the All-Star break is important to them whether they appear in it or not. It basically is a time for everyone to decompress because the season is a long grind.
Getting rid of the All-Star Game is definitely drastic, but Durant has a point here. Fans constantly complain about it to the point that if the All-Star weekend didn’t exist, maybe they would be more appreciative of the product.
The NBA has worked hard to make the season as entertaining as possible throughout all 82 games. That includes trying to make the All-Star Game something for the fans to look forward to, and they’ve struggled on that front. Maybe if they got rid of it for a year, fans wouldn’t complain as much about it.
