If there’s one thing that Draymond Green is well known for, it’s talking. Specifically, trash talking. Green, who has gone from on-court menace to broadcast and podcast menace, has a reputation for being loud, abrasive, and outspoken. We’ve seen that work against him on the court, especially when it comes to obtaining technical fouls.
Despite Green’s knack to be abrasive and straightforward, he tends to have fairly good insight on the game of basketball. For all of his antics and wordplay, Green remains one of the smartest basketball players in terms of seeing and reading the game. However, his recent comments about the state of the game currently rubbed a few people the wrong way, specifically one NBA legend.
Draymond Green Calls the Current NBA ‘Boring’
During All-Star weekend, Green touched on a number of topics, the most controversial one being the state of basketball. He took aim at where the NBA is currently and seemed to be very direct in his critique:
“Every possession is some type of chess move,” Green said. “You don’t get that today in the NBA, often. You don’t just get that on a regular basis. It’s just who can run faster, who can hit more 3s. It’s no substance. I think it’s very boring.”
While speaking highly of his battles against LeBron James and referencing Kobe Bryant, Green seemed to imply that players of today lack the IQ of the two legends he mentioned. Of course, Green’s comments were not met with glowing agreement, especially not from some of the legends of the game.
Oscar Robertson Takes Aim at Green
One of the greatest guards to play the game of basketball, Oscar Robertson, was asked about what Draymond said, and he was direct in his response as well. Perhaps a little too direct, but let’s hope Green can finally prove to be able to take it as well as he can dish it.
Speaking to Termine Radio and Frank Isola, the Hall of Famer dismissed what Green said:
"Who cares what Draymond says" 😂😂

“Well, Draymond says so much, who cares what Draymond says, it doesn’t mean anything…. this is what I mean. One guy can say this, one guy can say that, the game is what it is. People either like the game or they don’t, and I think people enjoy the game.”
Robertson continued with the direct jabs at Green, pondering why he might find the current state of basketball boring.
“It might be boring to him because if he’s not passing the ball to Curry, what is he doing? Not to single that out, because I think he knows how to play basketball, but he’s passing the ball to Curry more than anyone I’ve ever seen in basketball. It might be boring to him at times because of what he’s doing, maybe it is boring when he’s out there. He’s not shooting a lot. He’s not guarding a lot, so it’s boring.”
I’m sure Green will have some form of rebuttal to this on his next podcast episode, but what could you say in response to this? Green is still a vital part of the Warriors, but if basketball is boring, you might need to find some fun to help Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler pull the Warriors out of the 10th seed.
