There’s no denying the disastrous season the Dallas Mavericks are having. With Luka Dončić traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis was meant to help Kyrie Irving lead the team to the playoffs.
However, Davis was injured during a game against the Houston Rockets in February, missing weeks on the court right after the trade.
While Davis was injured, Dallas fans continued to trust Kyrie Irving, hoping he could keep their playoff hopes alive.
However, Irving is out for the season with an ACL tear, continuing the series of unfortunate events in Dallas.
NBA Analyst Tim Bontemps Thinks Dallas Mavericks Should Move On From Anthony Davis
Though some fans hope things get better, not everyone thinks Davis has a place with the Mavericks.
While on Hoop Collective, Analyst Tim Bontemps shared a bold take on Davis as he said: “I’m going to be honest, I don’t think Anthony Davis should ever play for the Mavericks again. He shouldn’t play the rest of the season, and they should trade him this summer.”

Despite pushback, Bontemps maintained his take, adding that it isn’t aggressive.
The long-time reporter spoke about Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who highlighted the team’s three to four-year window with this particular roster. And Irving, already 32 and with his player option coming up in 2025-26, might no longer be a major contributor.
As far as Bontemps is concerned, Davis needs another star beside him to lead this team to victory.
Klay Thompson Reacts to Irving’s Injury as Mavericks Rough Patch Continues
Along with the NBA world and Mavericks fans, Irving’s teammates are just as devastated with his injury. Klay Thompson spoke to the media, mentioning the injury as gut-wrenching for the team.
Asked Klay Thompson about Kyrie Irving’s season-ending ACL injury:
