Ex-NBA Player Issues Harsh Reality Check to Luka Dončić After LeBron James’ Worrisome Injury Struggles

Luka Dončić is feeling the pressure of playing for the Los Angeles Lakers more than ever. As fans are aware, the Lakers made a shocking trade, acquiring Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks. Alongside LeBron James and the rest of the team, Dončić initially appeared to be thriving.

However, recent reports revealed that James has sustained a groin injury, sidelining him for at least one to two weeks. With Dončić now solely in charge, former NBA star Kendrick Perkins sent him a message.

Kendrick Perkins Challenges Luka Dončić To Seize the Opportunity

At 40 years old, James continues to perform at an elite level, carrying the Lakers through the highly competitive Western Conference.

While many hoped the Lakers could maintain their momentum in his absence, they suffered a surprising 111-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

After the game, Perkins shared his thoughts on the Lakers’ situation on air.

“Bob Myers said on the countdown the other day that it’s been luck with the defensive strategy they put together. I’m not taking anything away from JJ, but these are professionals.

“Eventually, you’re going to face teams that can knock down three-point shots. I will say this, though: all eyes are on JJ Redick and Luka Dončić now. Let’s see what you can do without LeBron James on the floor.”

Perkins went on, “Luka, Dallas traded you because they didn’t think you were the guy for their franchise. Give the Lakers fans something to cheer about when LeBron retires. Is this franchise in good hands? This stretch will tell us a lot about JJ Redick and Luka Dončić.”

Perkins makes a valid point. Although the Lakers have a tough schedule ahead, they shouldn’t collapse the moment James sustains an injury.

With the Western Conference being highly competitive, the Lakers’ playoff hopes could take a hit if they lose a few consecutive games. Perkins believes it’s time for Dončić to prove himself and show what he can do without LeBron.
