Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison Trying To Trade for 2-Time Finals MVP To Form Big 3 With Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving

Coming off of a blockbuster Luka Dončić-for-Anthony Davis trade, another superstar could be added to the Davis/Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks.

Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison reportedly wants to add Kevin Durant to a lineup that includes Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, per The Athletic.

Could Kevin Durant Head to the Dallas Mavericks?

Are the Phoenix Suns willing to trade the two-time NBA Finals MVP? Phoenix must consider their best move. Despite Durant’s best efforts, the season has not gone as planned, and they are likely stuck with Bradley Beal (and his contract) going forward. There’s no easy way to improve the current roster, so they must consider whether it might be time to trade Durant.

Durant has been with the Suns for two seasons. During that time, their standing in the Western Conference has only worsened through no fault of Durant’s own. Durant may hit the market if they decide it’s not worth keeping the core intact anymore. The Suns currently hold the last play-in spot in the Western Conference standings with a 25-24 record.

Making that kind of trade is very risky for the Suns. However, it depends on what they plan to do with Durant. Are the Suns bottoming out, or are they re-tooling? Can the Mavericks trade for the 15-time All-Star?

The Suns may or may not be fed up with their lack of success after giving up the farm for Durant. The problem is that all of their first-round picks are elsewhere. Most belong to the Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, and Washington Wizards through various deals including for Beal and Durant. Also, the Suns recently traded their last tradable first-round pick to Utah a few weeks ago in a savvy 3-for-1 deal.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, David Aldridge, and Anthony Slater, the Mavericks dream of “trading for Durant,” while the Rockets are “contemplating a pursuit,” in line with previous rumors connecting Durant to Houston.

After the trade for the ages, it could be tough for the Mavs to pull off a deal for Durant unless they are willing to give away a few of their future first-round picks.

Whether they commit to making a run at Durant or not, the Mavericks hope Davis’ addition and Dončić’s departure can lead to success. Dallas is in eighth place in the Western Conference at 26-24 and needs a big second half of the season to stay in the playoff race.

Durant is as good as ever, averaging 26.9 points per game, but he’s 36 years old and may only have a few more good years left.
