The Cleveland Cavaliers are sitting atop the Eastern Conference currently at 44-10. They have a fairly comfortable 5.5-game lead on the Boston Celtics for the best record in the East, and as a result, their confidence has skyrocketed.
The Cavaliers are tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the entire NBA, and as they come out of the All-Star break, that confidence has them feeling like this year might be their year to win it all.
Evan Mobley Believes Cavaliers Will Win NBA Championship
Belief and confidence are the starting blocks to building yourself into a winning franchise. For Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley, his confidence is through the roof when looking at his team’s chances to make a major run. Mobley was pretty direct in his words:
”I think this year is definitely the year for us and we all want to get to the championship,” said Mobley. “I feel like we all are on the same page with that and we all believe that we can win a ‘chip this year, so that’s the plan.”
Mobley is playing excellent basketball, with some putting his name into the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player. Mobley had this to say when asked if those awards were a part of his focus:
”Not necessarily right now, but those two accolades definitely are in my mind. The main goal is just the championship.”
”It feels great,” Mobley added. “Most All-Stars of all the teams, and I feel like we’ve been having a great year. I feel like all the hard work we put in this year is paying off.”
Can Cavaliers Dethrone the Boston Celtics?
If Mobley’s words prove to be correct, the Cavaliers will have to overcome a formidable foe in the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.
The Cavaliers are currently 1-2 against the Celtics this season, but they’ll have one more chance to even that season series up. The Cavaliers have the tools and the talent to give Boston a tough time in the playoffs.
Mobley seems confident that his team will be victorious this year, but he also stated that the team needed to improve their defense, which will be key if they are going to beat the Celtics.
Will the Cavaliers fulfill Mobley’s prophecy and win it all? The Celtics, the Thunder, the Nuggets, and the other contenders all stand in their way.
