‘I’d Rather Retire’ — 76ers Superstar Joel Embiid Has Hilarious Reaction to NBA Star’s Recruiting Pitch

Joel Embiid has been known to make headlines over the years, typically for his MVP-level play and at times his hilarious antics. Embiid usually keeps things light-hearted, which is why he’s a fan favorite.

With that, Embiid can be found on the new Netflix docuseries “Court of Gold” joking with his teammates often, as he was a part of the Team USA squad that won the Gold medal during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

One hilarious clip has made the rounds, showcasing some of Embiid’s comedic side and his jokester personality.

Joel Embiid Declines Tyrese Haliburton’s Indiana ‘Offer’

During the “Court of Gold” docuseries, Tyrese Haliburton and Embiid can be seen sitting side by side toying with the idea of playing together outside the Olympics.

Haliburton joked with Embiid about coming to Indiana, to which Embiid had a hilarious rebuttal.

Haliburton: “You going to come to Indy? Come on, let’s make it.”

Embiid: “I might wanna come to Indy — SIKE, never in my life. I’d rather retire.”

This lighthearted exchange was followed by a brief discussion on Embiid potentially coming over to Haliburton’s house to join him in playing video games. If anything, “Court of Gold” is showing us just how well the Team USA squad got along and bonded during their time together in the 2024 Olympics.

What Would Embiid and Haliburton Teaming Up Look Like?

While the idea was quickly rejected by Embiid in a comedic way, the concept of a point guard like Haliburton working together with the big man is actually pretty intriguing.

While Embiid is adamant that he would rather retire than head to Indiana, this is the NBA, and anything could happen. Haliburton has shown a capability of playing next to big men like Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner, so a healthy Embiid on the court with him would be a nightmare for the defense.

Would these two ever really team up? Likely not, but stranger things have occurred in the NBA. Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis are teamed up on the Dallas Mavericks while Luka Dončić and LeBron James lead the Los Angeles Lakers, something that would have been unfathomable at the season’s start.

With that, a duo of Haliburton and Embiid doesn’t seem as far-fetched. You never know what will happen in the NBA, as Embiid might even end up in Indiana before he gets the chance to retire. Never say never.
