Ty Gibbs has started the 2025 NASCAR season watching his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Christopher Bell, rack up win after win. Racing alongside someone of Bell’s caliber can be intimidating. With Gibbs struggling to step out of his teammate’s shadow, he has decided to follow in Bell’s footsteps in hopes of turning his season around.
Bell decided earlier this year to return to dirt racing after his team relaxed its rules on competing outside the main series. Since then, Bell has already added to his trophy case, winning the Tulsa Shootout, the O’Reilly Race of Champions at the Chili Bowl, and multiple World of Outlaws events.
Back in NASCAR, Bell has been on fire, securing three consecutive wins this season, including his most recent victory at Phoenix.
Ty Gibbs To Follow Christopher Bell Into Dirt Racing
Gibbs, the grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs, is set to make his Sprint Car debut at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He will race for CB Industries in the High Limit Racing Series event on Thursday, March 13, in Las Vegas.
Gibbs will pilot the No. 84 Monster Energy car, with CB Industries announcing his debut on social media. This move is an effort to shake off his struggles in NASCAR.

Gibbs first showed interest in dirt racing last year, making his Midget debut at Ventura Raceway’s Turkey Night Grand Prix. The 2022 Xfinity Series champion then entered the Chili Bowl Nationals, where he won a G-main race and finished sixth in an F-main.
Speaking about Gibbs’ test run in a winged 410 Sprint Car earlier this month at Carolina Speedway, Sprint Car legend Lynton Jeffrey shared his thoughts on X.
“Ty was very impressive. He really took the car like a professional and was very smooth. He wasn’t lacking speed and gave great feedback as we made the car better with each run.”
Gibbs’ NASCAR Concerns
After four races in the 2025 season, Gibbs sits 34th in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings. To make matters worse, his only top-20 finish so far was a 16th-place result in the Daytona 500.
Despite the excitement around Gibbs’ High Limit Racing debut, his NASCAR performances have been trending downward since last year. Perhaps venturing into dirt racing will help him jumpstart his Cup Series career.
