Shane van Gisbergen isn’t done shaking things up in the racing world. After making his mark in NASCAR, the three-time Supercars champion is looking to bring some of NASCAR’s biggest names into his old stomping ground. His targets? Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson.
The idea of top-tier NASCAR drivers testing their skills in Australia and New Zealand’s premier touring car series, the Repco Supercars Championship, isn’t new. Still, van Gisbergen desires it more than ever to make it happen. He believes that supercars’ high downforce, tricky race circuits, and intense competition would be the ultimate challenge for these stock car icons.
“I would have loved to see how Kyle Busch went last year in the Supercar. It would have been very difficult, but I’m sure if he took it seriously, he would have done really well,” van Gisbergen recently shared. “Hopefully, that happens this year.”
Can Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson Adapt?
Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, is known for his raw talent and aggressive racing style. He has experience across multiple disciplines, from dirt racing to endurance events, but Supercars would be a completely different beast. Could he master the technical braking zones, rolling starts, and tight circuits that define the category?
Then there’s Kyle Larson—arguably one of the most versatile racers of his generation. With wins in several prestigious events, including NASCAR, sprint cars, and even the Chili Bowl Nationals (winning his third just a month ago), Larson thrives on adaptability. But Supercars, with their sequential gearboxes and left-hand drive setup, would push him into unexplored territory.
A Dream Supercars Showdown?
If Busch and Larson accept van Gisbergen’s challenge, the crossover would be monumental—not just for fans of Supercars, but for global motorsport. The sheer appeal of seeing two of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers battle it out at the Adelaide 500, Oceania’s premier event, could bring an entirely new audience to Supercars.
Will these NASCAR legends take on the challenge? Or will Supercars remain an untouched terrain for American stock car stars? The racing world is waiting.
