‘F*** THEM’: NASCAR Legend Defends Carson Hocevar with Blunt Message to Haters Following Controversial P2 Finish at Atlanta

Carson Hocevar’s runner-up finish at Atlanta should have been a proud moment, but instead, it sparked heated debates in the NASCAR world. The young driver’s aggressive racing style angered several veteran competitors, leading to harsh public criticism. However, Hall of Famer Mark Martin had a simple and blunt message for those hating on Hocevar.

Carson Hocevar’s Driving Style Sparks Outrage

Hocevar, who placed ninth in Stage 1 and seventh in Stage 2, made some daring moves during the race, starting 26th and finishing second.

His willingness to go all-out for position didn’t sit well with some of the more experienced drivers such as Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney, who felt he was racing too aggressively. They had issues with the way he fought for spots early in the race, with some believing he should have shown more patience.

The frustration boiled over after the checkered flag when several veterans voiced their displeasure. They even suggested that Hocevar was making enemies on the track that could come back to haunt him later in the season. But if history is any indication, aggressive young drivers often receive this kind of backlash when they first start challenging established names.

Mark Martin Backs Hocevar Amid Backlash

While some drivers criticized Hocevar’s racing style, one NASCAR legend didn’t hold back in his support. Having seen countless young racers face the same scrutiny, Martin made it clear that Hocevar shouldn’t worry about what others are saying. He sent a message to the driver, reposting a motivational account that simply said, “F*** THEM,” about haters and critics.

Landon Cassill also posted on social media showing his support for Hocevar. “It’s so funny to see a bunch of veteran drivers pissed at a young and aggressive rookie going for his first win. A tale as old as time. I love it,” he said.

Martin and Cassill’s words carry weight. Throughout NASCAR history, stars like Busch and Blaney were also criticized early in their careers for being too aggressive. Yet, their fearless approach is what made them legendary racers in due time.

Hocevar is now experiencing that same resistance, and as Brad Keselowski had pointed out years ago, “In this sport when others are angry at you, generally you’ve done something right. Because when you’re in a competitive environment, the only time a competitor is going to like you is when they’re beating you.”

Despite the controversy, Hocevar’s performance at Atlanta proved that he has the skill and determination to compete at the highest level. While he may have made some enemies along the way, he also gained respect for not backing down. Don’t expect him to change his approach anytime soon.
