‘Genuinely Terrifying’ – NASCAR Fans in Shock Over Cockpit Footage of Ryan Preece’s Airborne Crash at Daytona 500

During the 2025 Daytona 500, Ryan Preece was involved in one of the most terrifying moments of his career. After getting into a high-speed crash, his car soared through the air, terrifying both fans and fellow drivers.

With NASCAR safety innovations in a much more advanced place, Preece survived the crash. In fact, the crash was a testament to the advancements in the sport’s protective measures, but it also served as a bleak reminder of the dangers of motorsport.

Fans Forced To Relive Another Horrible Crash Involving Ryan Preece

Preece is no stranger to dramatic accidents. In 2023, during the Coke Zero Sugar 400, he barrel-rolled his car multiple times in the infield grass, with the car erupting into flames. This prompted NASCAR to repave the grass area to avoid such situations in the future.

Now again, in 2025, Preece gave fans an eerie sense of déjà vu at the Daytona 500. Once again, NASCAR fans saw Preece’s car caught in the middle of a nerve-wrecking accident.

With five laps to go, contact from Cole Custer sent Christopher Bell’s car spinning, triggering the chain of events that led to Preece going headfirst into Bell and th impact sending Preece’s car airborne.

Although this is not Preece’s first terrifying crash, the video footage from the cockpit still shocked fans. As the car flipped through the air and landed upside down, fans held their breath hoping Preece would make it out alive.

One fan said, “Every on-board replay was genuinely terrifying in the moment.”

Another fan replied, “That face said, “Oh s***, not again.”

“Is that is head going up or his helmet going up. Either way, that has to cause some kind of damage. I hope he will be okay long-term,” shared a fan on X.

    “Goodness Gracious,” reacted another fan.

Another fan talking about the crash said, “The first thing I thought of when I saw this view of @RyanPreece_”

Though NASCAR has maintained that car safety protocols have been improved and all safety measures were undertaken, the accident has still sparked debate on whether tracks like Daytona are truly safe for drivers.
