After an eventful finish at the Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin took to X to express his frustration over the results of a challenging race. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver wrote, “It sucked,” in a post talking about the wreck he was involved in on the final lap of the Daytona 500.
Up until the final lap, Hamlin looked like he had a chance to win as he battled for the lead spot with Team Penske’s Austin Cindric. But Hamlin was involved in a wreck with Cindric in the final lap of The Great American Race, and with no caution thrown by NASCAR, Hamlin lost the winning spot.
Fans Express Views on Last Lap Crash Involving Denny Hamlin
Talking about NASCAR not throwing a caution, Hamlin said, “I think they react. They feel like if they get trashed, socially, on a call, they will over-go on the next one. Either way, we weren’t going to win, so I don’t care.”
Hamlin’s post resonated with NASCAR fans, who also took to X to show their support for him and sympathize with after the race.
One fan replied, “Yeah, it did! Any other time, they would have called a caution. If they had done this since the white flag was wave, you would have won. But I feel that NASCAR saw the opportunity to not let you win.”

Another fan replied, “Really sucks man, I’m sorry! You made the pass and had it won! I guess [Cole] Custer felt the need to cause multiple wrecks tonight.”
Hamlin wound up finishing the race in 24th position. William Byron, meanwhile, who was in seventh until the wreck, avoided the crash and went on to win the race.
