“Drivers, start your engines.” It’s the phrase that gets every NASCAR fan fired up. Over the years, the Grand Marshal’s command has become a star-studded tradition, with celebrities delivering the iconic words.

Last week, Morgan Freeman took the mic at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, while Anthony Mackie led the charge at the Daytona 500. But this time, Homestead-Miami Speedway chose to spotlight a local NFL star.

“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to kick off the Straight Talk Wireless 400 in South Florida,” Chubb said in a statement. “Getting a behind-the-scenes look at Homestead-Miami Speedway last week was an incredible experience, and I can’t wait to feel the energy on Sunday.”

Chubb starred at NC State, earning first-team All-ACC, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and All-American honors. He also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Ted Hendricks Award.

The Denver Broncos selected Chubb fifth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in Denver before a trade sent him to the Dolphins.

In 2022, Chubb signed a five-year, $110 million deal with $63.2 million guaranteed. He recorded eight sacks, 39 tackles, one pass defended, and three fumble recoveries that season. Chubb followed that up with 11 sacks in 16 games in 2023, earning a Pro Bowl selection.

His 2023 season ended early after tearing his ACL in Week 17, sidelining him for 2024. Still, Chubb remains a key piece of Miami’s defense as the Dolphins aim for another playoff run after their 2023 postseason appearance.

“It’s an honor to have an athlete as dedicated to his craft as Bradley Chubb help us kick off the Straight Talk Wireless 400 as our Grand Marshal,” Homestead-Miami Speedway president Guillermo Santa Cruz said in a statement.

“Bradley’s tenacity and passion on the field embody the spirit of competition that we pride ourselves on at Homestead-Miami Speedway. We’re looking forward to him bringing that South Florida sports energy to our fans before another fierce Cup Series race.”

NASCAR weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway runs March 21-23, featuring all three national series.
