Once feared on the tracks, Brad Keselowski received a harsh performance assessment from former NASCAR champion Kevin Harvick. With 36 NASCAR Cup Series wins, 39 wins in the Xfinity Series, and one in the Truck Series under his belt, Keselowski is arguably one of the best NASCAR racers in the history of the sport.
Despite an illustrious career with many big wins, the 2014 Cup champion Harvick believed Keselowski’s best years were behind him. Speaking on his “Happy Hour” podcast, Harvick said, “I don’t think we ever see another championship out of Keselowski. I think one of the big question marks that I have, is Brad Keselowski ever going to get back to what he was at Penske?”
Brad Keselowski’s Performance at RFK Racing vs. Penske Racing
Since becoming a part owner at RFK Racing, Keselowski has undergone a shift in role. Talking about Keselowski’s role as a driver for the team, Harvick said, “I think he’s done a great job at RFK. But as the driver, I think he’s going to continue to make an impact at RFK with structure, organization, racing common sense, and all the things that come with that.”
He added, “But I just, you know, we’ve seen flashes of brilliance out of that car over the past few years. And now you’ve got a crew chief change. And they added another car. I think Chris Buescher has outperformed him over the last couple years for sure.”
With the restructuring of the team and the addition of a third full-time car for Ryan Preece, the No. 6 Ford drivers’ chances have been reduced further.
Can Keselowski Make a Solid Comeback?
While Harvick brought up valid points for concern about Keselowski’s future, his joining RFK Racing in 2022 has helped the team make significant positive strides. But whether he could achieve any more wins had Harvick seriously in doubt.
He added, “Can Brad Keselowski get back to that consistency that he had at Penske? And can he do that as driver and owner? I haven’t seen it yet. I think that they have the speed on occasion to go out and win some races, but it comes in small pockets. And it’s not been where it needs to be to be back in championship mode.”
