‘It Gives Me Chills’ – Canadian NASCAR Driver Awestruck by Donald Trump’s Presence at Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 has always been one of the most significant events in motorsports. It is an electrifying spectacle, but it had an extra layer of excitement this year. Current U.S. President Donald Trump made his second appearance at the Daytona 500, leaving a lasting impression on Canadian NASCAR driver Amber Balcaen.

    Amber Balcaen’s Surreal Experience

Balcaen, who competed in the ARCA Menards Series the day before, was overwhelmed by the energy of the crowd when Trump arrived. As a Canadian, she had never experienced anything like it and described the moment as unforgettable.

“I’m Canadian, but I’ve never experienced anything like that. You could feel the energy, and even still talking about it, it gives me chills. It was really neat,” Balcaen admitted in an interview with OutKick, reflecting on the loud cheers and excitement from the fans. She acknowledged that politics aside, it was fascinating to see the reaction from the crowd and the level of passion surrounding the event.

“The Daytona 500 is known as the great American race. It’s NASCAR’s Super Bowl. So, to have Donald Trump or the President of the United States there, I mean, the energy was already absolutely electric on that day at Daytona. But having the President there just added another level,” she said.

Balcaen has been making waves in NASCAR as one of the few female drivers in the sport. While focused on her racing career, she acknowledged that seeing a moment like this at such a prestigious event was unique.

William Byron Takes the Daytona 500 Win

While Trump’s visit drew much attention off the track, the on-track action was just as thrilling. William Byron captured the checkered flag, dramatically securing his back-to-back Daytona 500 victories. After the race, Byron spoke about the energy at Daytona and how having such high-profile guests adds to the event’s significance.

“I think anytime you can have a sitting president come and see your sporting event, it is very special. And for him to take the time to do that was really cool. Just to be able to see the motorcade go across the track and just the various things that he did when he was there was pretty cool,” Byron said.

The Daytona 500 is renowned for delivering unforgettable moments, and the 2025 edition was no different. From Byron’s historic victory to Balcaen’s emotional reaction and Trump’s presence creating a buzz, it was a race weekend that will be remembered for a long time.
