The Cleveland Browns suffered a double blow on one play during the second quarter of their game with the Kansas City Chiefs. Not only did they give up a touchdown, but they also saw Myles Garrett remain down on the field with an apparent face injury.
Let’s examine the latest injury update for Garrett and what it means for Week 15 and beyond.
What Happened to Myles Garrett?
Garrett was down, holding his face after the touchdown play. During his pass rush, Joe Thuney’s hand appeared to catch Garrett on the helmet, and the star pass rusher immediately wheeled away, holding his face, and went to the ground.
Garrett was accompanied by training staff as he left the field and headed straight to the locker room with a towel over his face.

The Browns announced it as an eye injury and listed Garrett as questionable to return. They did not provide any more specifics, but it looks like Thuney’s finger may have caught Garrett in the eye during the play. Garrett returned to the sideline from the locker room with just under two minutes to play in the second quarter and was back in the game shortly after.
The impact of losing Garrett would be immediate and completely change the shape of this game. The Chiefs have had pass protection issues in recent weeks, and Garrett could have caused all kinds of issues for them this week. He had not impacted the game much prior to his injury, but the potential is always there with a player of Garrett’s quality.
After the game, Garrett looked almost embarrassed when addressing the situation. He had taken his visor off because it was raining, and things got blurry and dark after he was hit in the eye. Garrett told reporters that it “hurt a lot,” and he was worried he might not be able to see again because he had had LASIK. He added that he thinks he should be fine but will see an eye doctor tomorrow.
