Myles Garrett Said He Can See Himself Playing for Washington Commanders
Garrett made it clear that he wanted to be traded to a team capable of contending immediately. Well, the Washington Commanders made it to the NFC Championship Game and have the nucleus of a team capable of being Super Bowl-ready in 2025.
Garrett laughed when asked if he wanted to play for the Commanders, but he told Sports Illustrated, nonetheless, that Washington would be a perfect place for him.
“I mean, they need a pass rusher. I think that’s something that they dearly missed in the playoffs and some of their big games,” Garrett said about Washington. “And I feel like I could fill that role.”

The Commanders have a cerebral quarterback with an excellent skill set in Jayden Daniels. They also have a new owner and general manager who are set on winning. Likewise, Washington needs a pass rusher who can dominate the way Garrett can.
However, as of now, Cleveland is not intent on moving Garrett and is not fielding offers for the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year. Garrett could elect to sit out, however, essentially forcing the Browns to move him.
Garrett has the money and can afford to sit out the preseason and force the Browns to act, if necessary. In December, he made it clear that he is not interested in another rebuild in Cleveland. And in his statement from Feb. 3, Garrett said his goal “has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.”
Based on where the Browns are at now as an organization, competing for a Super Bowl seems far off.
As he made his rounds on Radio Row in New Orleans, the Cleveland pass rusher was the most sought-after interview in the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. ESPN’s Mina Kimes landed the big fish for “The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny” podcast, where Garrett told her that his No. 1 prerequisite for his next team to have is a quarterback — maybe a Daniels-type quarterback.
“Any playoff team, or any championship team, they’re gonna have a quarterback, a good quarterback,” said Garrett. “You’ve seen some game managers go out there with a great defense and win it all. But if you wanna consistently be at the top, you gotta have a really good quarterback.”
Garrett made it clear he wants to play for a winner with stability at the quarterback position. Yet, since 1999, the Browns have trotted out 40 different quarterbacks — which is when they began playing as the Browns again.
