Week 3 of the NFL season comes to an end during Monday Night Football. In an interesting battle between two teams from the NFC East, will either be able to set themselves apart? Who is playing tonight, what time does the game start, and how can you watch it?
Who plays on Monday Night Football tonight?
Teams
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
Location
MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
When the NFL scheduled this matchup, I doubt they expected to see Cooper Rush under center for the Dallas Cowboys. I doubt even more that they predicted the New York Giants to be one of the few remaining undefeated teams in the league. Thanks to strong performances from their defense and a resurgent Saquon Barkley, the Giants have looked nothing like the 4-13 team they were last year.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys are coming off an impressive win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week and are now 1-1 on the season. However, as mentioned above, they are without their starting QB Dak Prescott who injured his thumb in Week 1. Prescott’s injury will cause him to miss anywhere between four and eight weeks. In his absence, Rush will try to keep this team competitive by relying on an elite defensive line led by Micah Parson and a strong run game with Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard.
[bet-promo id=”160004″ ]The Giants and Cowboys have played 120 times since 1960. Dallas leads the all-time series, 71-47-2. They also won both games last season, with the Giants’ last victory in the series occurring in Week 17 of the 2020 campaign. However, as we already mentioned, this Giants team looks nothing like last year.
They have a new head coach in Brian Daboll, who has found a way to take advantage of what this Giants team does well, run the ball. New York is fifth in the NFL, rushing for 170.5 yards per game. Barkley is second in the NFL with 236 rushing yards and sixth in yards per attempt, averaging 6.1.
The betting line in this one opened with Dallas as four-point favorites. That has since shifted, and now New York is laying a point at home. With the spread being this close, sportsbooks are basically admitting this game is a toss-up. Will the Giants’ defense be able to contain the Dallas offense, especially if Michael Gallup can finally make his return? Will the Cowboys’ pass rush be able to force Jones into making mistakes?
PFN’s Betting Director BJ Ruddell broke down how he sees this game playing out in his Week 3 picks and predictions.
“Cooper Rush might be a better QB than Daniel Jones. Dallas’ defense is better than the Giants’. That’s enough for me. And sure, Saquon Barkley has rebounded nicely. But if the Giants are forced to throw, they’re playing into their rival’s hands.”
