What to expect from tonight’s Rams vs. 49ers game?
Rams GM Les Snead continues to collect star players like Thanos collecting infinity stones. The Rams sent 2022 second- and third-round picks to the Denver Broncos for All-Pro linebacker Von Miller just two weeks ago. Then, this past Friday, Los Angeles signed WR Odell Beckham Jr to a one-year deal.
The Rams have forgone selecting in the first round since 2016, and things are starting to come together. Some may not like the Madden Ultimate team-esque style of roster creation, but it seems to be working this season for the Rams.
Matthew Stafford and company should have a big night
The feeling in the air in Los Angeles is electric given all the big splashes, and that emotion should carry into Monday Night Football tonight. Just one week ago, we watched the Arizona Cardinals dismantle the 49ers with their backups. While the Rams did lose WR Robert Woods to a torn ACL in practice on Friday, they will play Monday Night Football with a relatively healthy team tonight.
The injury to Woods’ knee did push the Rams to start Beckham this week. While OBJ may not have a full grasp of the playbook just yet, head coach Sean McVay should be able to put together a great game plan for him to succeed in his first start.
The 49ers’ defense hasn’t been awful this season, but a leaky run defense has contributed to the 25.3 points per game they have given up this season. The Rams have scored 25 or more points in seven of their nine games.
On the other side of the football, the Rams’ defense compares pretty well to the 49ers outside of a stingier run-stopping performance. Stopping San Francisco’s run game and forcing QB Jimmy Garoppolo to pass has become a blueprint of defeating this team. With the defensive front the Rams have, that should be easy as pie. The Rams bounce back from their Week 9 loss with a victory that helps them keep up with Arizona.
