Kansas City Chiefs superfan Eric Stonestreet is one of the bigger names that has come out to not only support the franchise amid the cheating allegations from social media but also give it back to ESPN’s Adam Schefter ahead of the AFC championship matchup, who came out with an article discussing the NFL’s potential expansion to its replay assist system.
The controversy started after the Chiefs secured a 23-14 win against the Houston Texans during the AFC Divisional Round — a couple of calls left many analysts and fans wondering if the league is setting up Patrick Mahomes and his team for the holy three-peat.
While most insiders agreed that the two controversial calls could go either way, Schefter’s latest report hints otherwise, which wasn’t very well received by the “Modern Family” star.
Adam Schefter Faces Eric Stonestreet’s Wrath Over NFL Replay Tweet
Schefter and ESPN published an article discussing how the NFL’s replay assist could explore expansion regarding quarterback slides in the future — and Schefter posted it on x (formerly Twitter) the morning of the AFC showdown between the Buffalo Bills and the Chiefs.
The article references Mahomes multiple times, which became the cause of many Chiefs fans’ fury including Kansas City mayor, Quinton Lucas, and former K.C. O-lineman Mitchell Schwartz.
The ESPN reporter shared in his report amid all the complaints over pro-Mahomes calls, and the NFL is now expected to expand its assist system this offseason to include plays that could include the quarterback slide.
Schefter shared that the replay assist came into the conversation “when Mahomes scrambled out of the pocket, slid beneath two lunging Texans defenders, and still drew a 15-yard penalty on Houston for unnecessary roughness.”
The ESPN host also shared a series of posts, one of which was a list of penalties during the Chiefs’ eight-game win streak in playoffs, hinting at an unspoken bias towards the defending champs.

During his NFL GameDay appearance, Stonestreet made sure he stood up for Mahomes and his team against the cheating propaganda.
“Don’t get mired down in Adam Schefter’s tweet,” Stonestreet said. “‘The league is favoring the Chiefs’ — he calls out Patrick Mahomes in his tweet, like Patrick Mahomes is the only one on the beneficiary end of a roughing-the-passer call. He’s got the biggest reach in all of the NFL, and here he’s out implying and furthering this conspiracy that the league is rigging the game against us. Here’s the deal. I love football. I love it all. I don’t — I hate that stuff.”

The Modern Family star continued and said that he’s pro-freedom of speech and pro-freedom of thought, so if someone wants to think the league is rigged, he supports the thought process. However, for Schefter to be posting this to his followers given his reach in the NFL world, it’s “whatever.”
