Texas Rangers Reveal Jacob deGrom Injury Update as Pitcher Looks To Rebound From Injury-Plagued Season

Jacob deGrom has been on the Texas Rangers roster for the last two seasons, but he’s pitched a total of nine games in that span. Injuries have been the story of his career.

DeGrom was one of the best pitchers in the MLB when he was healthy with the New York Mets, showing his dominance on the mound with two Cy Young awards. Will deGrom have a chance to bounce back at any point during the 2025 MLB season?

Texas Rangers Manager Bruce Bochy Reveals When Jacob deGrom Could Pitch in 2025

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy hopes that deGrom can make an impact in the starting rotation during the 2025 MLB season. DeGrom is 36 years old and hasn’t yet pitched in a spring training game this year, but there is hope he could take the mound fairly soon.

The Rangers will take on the Colorado Rockies later this week. Bochy mentioned that deGrom will be either the fourth or fifth starter in the rotation this season, adding, “It’s just how it’s shaping up. We decided to go ahead and give him the back end of the rotation.”

With deGrom in the back end of the Rangers’ rotation this season, it could be a surplus for Texas, especially if he stays healthy. The last time that he pitched a full season was back in 2019 with the Mets. That season, deGrom pitched in 32 games for a total of 204.0 innings and gave up 154 hits and 59 runs.

He only walked 44 batters and struck out 255 batters during the 2019 season, and his WHIP was an impressive .097.

The projected starting rotation for the Rangers this season will be Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, Cody Bradford, and deGrom. If deGrom is indeed the fifth starter for Texas this season, he will start against the Cincinnati Reds on March 31.

After winning the World Series in 2023, the Rangers missed the playoffs last season. Obviously, the hope is that they’ll be back in the playoffs in 2025, and it will only help if deGrom can avoid another injury-riddled season.
