The Chicago Cubs finished the 2024 MLB season with an 83-79 record. In the offseason, the Cubs were involved in many rumors, including the sweepstakes for stars such as Alex Bregman, who ultimately signed with the Boston Red Sox.
The Cubs did land some talented players, most notably outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros. With the season right around the corner, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported that the Cubs are discussing a deal with veteran pitcher Lance Lynn.
MLB Insider Warns Cubs Against Lance Lynn Signing
While Lynn would provide some key depth to the rotation, MLB insider Dan Bernstein had a stern message for the Cubs regarding the veteran southpaw during an episode of “The Bernstein and Harris Show.”
“No thank you,” Bernstein said. “They don’t need another guy throwing 90. He’ll get his something lit in Wrigley Field.
“No thank you. A fly ball pitcher? The fact that Shota (Imanaga) got through last year as well as he did was great. That is a bad fit,” Bernstein said about Lynn.
The Cubs are negotiating a 1-year deal with Lance Lynn, per @BNightengale.@dan_bernstein wants no part of Lynn on the Cubs.

Bernstein hid no feelings about the Cubs’ reported interest in Lynn, who will turn 38 years old on May 12 and is in the final stretch of his career.
What Does Lance Lynn Bring?
At this point in his career, Lynn is just a depth option, which is exactly what was reported via the Cubs interest to begin with.
In 2024, Lynn registered a 7-4 record with a 3.84 ERA in 23 games in a reunion with the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent the 2023 seasons between the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers, although he struggled that year with a combined 5.73 ERA.
The Cubs rotation has four starters locked in with Justin Steele, Shota Imanaga, Jameson Taillon and Matthew Boyd ready to roll. Meanwhile, Lynn could be an option for the No. 5 role until Javier Assad returns from the IL.
Still, Bernstein wants no part of it, and it will be worth monitoring to see if Lynn comes to the Cubs.
