Brandon Nimmo Injury Update: New York Mets’ Star Dealing With New Issue

New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo missed his third straight game on Monday, March 3, with knee soreness. He hasn’t played since Friday for the Mets, and this is not the first major injury to New York this spring training.

As of now, Nimmo is projected to be one of the starting outfielders when opening day begins at the end of the month.

Nimmo spoke to the media about his knee soreness, mentioning that he was still working out on the field.

“Hitting was great, throwing was 90%, running 70%.”

Nimmo also added that he won’t be in Tuesday’s spring training lineup either. It makes sense since he’ll want to take advantage of the off day on Wednesday and see how his knee feels after that.

Last season, Nimmo had a .224 batting average with 23 home runs and 90 RBIs, along with 15 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .327.

Even with Nimmo dealing with knee soreness over the last few days, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza doesn’t seem concerned at all, saying to the media:

“He complained a little bit of knee soreness. Low level of concern. The plan was for him to get some at-bats yesterday, but obviously, he didn’t do that. He wasn’t gonna play today. He’s scheduled to play tomorrow, but if we need to take advantage of that extra — he’s going through the workout today. Like I said, low level of concern. So hopefully he’s in the lineup tomorrow. If not, we’ll take advantage of the off day and see where we’re at.”

It’s good news that Mendoza doesn’t seem to be concerned about Nimmo’s status moving forward. With that said, Nimmo did deal with a foot issue for New York during the 2024 postseason.

The Mets’ 2024 season ended when they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games of the National League Championship Series. This season, New York is yet again a team with high expectations and can’t afford to have one of its star players go on the injured list to start.

Nimmo is projected to be one of the Mets’ starting outfielders this season, alongside Jose Siri and Juan Soto. If Nimmo is not back in the lineup by Thursday, then this injury could become a bigger issue for the team.
