Mitchell Trubisky Landing Spots: Potential suitors for Bears QB

After four rollercoaster seasons in the NFL, what are Mitchell Trubisky’s top landing spots when free agency begins in 2021? Let’s take a look at which team may be looking to invest in the second overall selection from the 2017 NFL Draft.

    Mitchell Trubisky Landing Spots

Coming off the back of a mixed 2020 season, which teams could be potential landing spots for Mitchell Trubisky in free agency?

    Chicago Bears

Mitchell Trubisky has been thoroughly underwhelming for the Chicago Bears, but a return to the Windy City still makes sense as a potential landing spot. Since his second year in Chicago, Trubisky has led the Bears to a 25-13 record. The Bears have made the playoffs twice in three seasons with Trubisky.

His career numbers are not overly scintillating. However, Trubisky was on pace for 3,500 passing yards, 27 passing touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. While not incredible numbers, the Bears could certainly do worse with limited options available in free agency this offseason.

    Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos have their own concerns at QB, making them a potential landing spot for Mitchell Trubisky. In 18 games, Drew Lock has thrown 18 interceptions to just 23 touchdowns, with an 8-10 record. With the Broncos heading into the 2021 league year with no sure-fire answer at QB, could Trubisky be the answer?

Despite the fact Vic Fangio was the defensive coordinator at Chicago, he does have experience being around Trubisky. If the Broncos actively pursue Trubisky, it is a great sign regarding how they view Trubisky as a leader. A move from Lock to Trubisky may ultimately be a lateral move for the franchise. On the other hand, Trubisky should be a low-cost option, who can at least come in and compete for the job.

    Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders have seemingly yearned for someone to come in and push Derek Carr. With Marcus Mariota a potential cut candidate, the Raiders could be an intriguing landing spot for Mitchell Trubisky.

With Mariota’s contract backloaded, Trubisky could come in on a slightly cheaper deal. However, with Derek Carr coming towards the end of his contract, the Raiders may instead look to invest in a prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft.

    Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are another team that is in no-mans-land at the QB position. Jalen Hurts was unconvincing in his four starts last season. With Carson Wentz having been traded, the Eagles may be looking to bring in competition for Hurts in camp. While that could be a rookie in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trubisky could also provide that competition.

It is worth noting that Hurts was effective with his legs last year. That is something Trubisky has demonstrated an ability to do at times in his career. In 2018, he carried the ball 68 times for 421 rushing yards and has 190 carries for 1,057 rushing yards in his career. While not as proficient with his legs as Hurts, Mitchell Trubisky’s ability to make plays with his legs could open this up as a potential landing spot for him.

What is Mitchell Trubisky’s market value in free agency?

With limited landing spots, it is tough to know how Mitchell Trubisky’s market might shape up. The backup QB market can often be somewhat tricky to navigate. Marcus Mariota signed a two-year, $17.6 million deal as a backup last offseason.

However, in contrast, the likes of Blake Bortles and Jameis Winston could only muster deals that came in around the veteran minimum. Spotrac calculated Trubisky’s market value to be around the same as Mariota at $8.3 million per year. Realistically, that feels like the ceiling for Trubisky this offseason.
