Mike Williams Injury Update: Should Fantasy Managers Be Worried About the Jets WR?

    Published on

What's the latest on Mike Williams' health, and should you draft the New York Jets' wide receiver?

The NFL preseason is over and the regular season is less than two weeks away, which means it’s time for fantasy football drafts. Many NFL fans are cramming ahead of their drafts, which means checking in on the various injuries around the league. What’s the latest on New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams, and should you draft him?

The Latest on Mike Williams’ Health

The veteran receiver is coming off of a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 last season and has been managed through the summer. HC Robert Saleh said that Williams would be available for the Monday night opener against the 49ers, but also hedged that bet to a degree by saying it “wouldn’t be fair” to expect him to be 100%.

This reads much like a situational player who may come in for big plays, something that is next to impossible for fantasy managers to bet on. I’m worried about the time Williams has missed this preseason less from a health standpoint and more from a missed opportunity to develop with Aaron Rodgers’ point of view.

That said, Williams is the type of big body that we’ve seen Rodgers trust in the past, and with a 12th-round ADP, there’s little risk in rolling the dice.

    Mike Williams’ Fantasy Outlook

Williams enters the 2024 season coming off a torn ACL and joining a new team for the first time in his career. At 30 years old, there are concerns about his ability to return to form, especially in a new environment.

Williams has been a solid WR2 in the past but now faces the challenge of commanding a significant target share opposite Garrett Wilson.

His ability to maintain his previous production levels will depend heavily on his health and connection with Aaron Rodgers.

Williams is currently being drafted as WR54, No. 139 overall. While there are younger players with more upside being drafted around him, Williams’ proven ability to produce when healthy makes him an intriguing option at this price point.
