Should I Draft Mike Williams? Chargers WR’s Fantasy Outlook in 2023

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams has shown flashes of greatness when on the field, but can you trust him at cost to guide your fantasy football team?

Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams has been a roller-coaster ride for fantasy football managers since he was the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Williams has a pair of seasons with at least nine touchdown grabs on his résumé, but he also has exactly one full season under his belt and scored just four times in 2022. His current ADP reflects some scar tissue from those down seasons … time to buy the dip?

    Mike Williams’ Fantasy Outlook

Williams will again be joined by Keenan Allen as the primary targets in L.A.’s offense, but they aren’t alone. Joshua Palmer has flashed potential through two seasons and, just for good measure, the Bolts spent the 21st overall pick in April on 6’3” Quentin Johnston.

TE Gerald Everett and RB Austin Ekeler give this offense viable options in the short passing game, making 2023 a good bet to be the true unleashing of Justin Herbert.

A repeat as a top-10 yardage offense is very likely, and the Chargers cracking the top quarter of the league in terms of scoring is certainly possible, given the raw talent on this roster.

Is Williams a Good Fantasy Pick?

The addition of Kellen Moore to the coaching staff has Williams truthers salivating. I would know, I am one.

His athletic profile meshes well with what it is that Moore likes to do, so it may just be a matter of staying on the field.

Allen is recovered and looking to build on what was a career pace prior to getting banged up last season. The veteran receiver said this preseason that Moore is moving him all around the formation, a camp nugget that I think says more about Williams than it does Allen.

We know Williams has take-the-top-off size and athleticism, so if he is more involved in the short passing game, we could be looking at a high-floor, high-ceiling type of receiver that is impossible to find in this ADP range.
