New York Jets quarterback Mike White left Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills after taking a hard hit in the third quarter. White went to the locker room, so the Jets turned to Joe Flacco under center.
New York Jets QB Mike White Suffers Injury
White, who had already missed several plays earlier in the game after taking a big hit, went down and then gingerly made his way to New York’s locker room. He eventually returned in the fourth quarter after the Jets had announced him as questionable with a ribs injury.
Following the Jets’ loss, head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that White was taken to the hospital after the game. Saleh indicated that White will be evaluated for internal injuries after taking multiple hard hits against the Bills but added the visit was precautionary in nature.
White was making his third start of the season after the Jets had opted to bench Zach Wilson. He’d gone 1-1 so far and had completed 15 of 23 attempts for 155 yards before departing against the Bills.
With Wilson inactive as the No. 3 quarterback, the Jets have turned back to Flacco, who started the first three games of the year when Wilson was injured. Flacco attempted a whopping 155 pass attempts in three games, so we’ll have to see if the Jets go back to their pass-heavy ways now that’s he under center.
It seems highly unlikely that New York would turn back to Wilson if White is sidelined for multiple games, but he would assuredly become the backup behind Flacco.
The Jets are in the thick of the playoff race and are currently the No. 7 seed in the AFC. After playing the Bills today, New York will face the Lions, Jaguars, Seahawks, and Dolphins to close out the season.
