Michael Irvin has always been a polarizing player and personality. He entered the NFL as a brash, trash-talking, playmaking receiver who had no problem telling everyone how good he was.
Irvin’s play on the field backed up his trash talk, making him one of the most recognizable players in the league. Irvin’s play was a catalyst for the Dallas Cowboys dynasty, which won three Super Bowl titles in a four-year span.
Irvin’s career ended due to a spinal cord injury, but “The Playmaker” left an indelible mark on the NFL, which resulted in his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Irvin chose to make his mark in football after his playing career was over.
What Is Michael Irvin’s Current Job?
Irvin turned his professional football playing experience into an NFL broadcaster and analyst position with ESPN. Irvin’s brash talk on the field transitioned to brash talk off of it, and The Playmaker didn’t pull any punches.

Irvin was critical when necessary, but his commentating appeared fair as he was well-respected by his colleagues and players in the NFL alike. Yet, Irvin’s life and career have been marred with controversy over the years.
NFL Network removed Irvin from their Super Bowl coverage due to a hotel incident and accusation. Irvin was not brought back to NFL Network and had to look for a position elsewhere.
Skip Bayless, FS1’s host of their flagship program “Undisputed,” announced Irvin would join Richard Sherman, Keyshawn Johnson, and himself as the show’s hosts. No details have emerged as far as the length of the contract is concerned.
How Much Did Irvin Make in the NFL?
The Cowboys selected Irvin from the University of Miami with the 11th selection in the 1988 NFL Draft. Irvin’s rookie contract was for four years and $1.875 million, which included a $750,000 signing bonus.
