The Dallas Cowboys kicked off the regular season with an explosive 40-0 win against the New York Giants. Linebacker Micah Parsons spoke about the win and how all three phases of the game contributed to the historical success.
Micah Parsons Giving Credit Where It’s Due
The edge rusher says the momentum started after Juanyeh Thomas blocked a Giants’ field-goal attempt, which ended in Noah Igbinoghene taking the ball back into the end zone for a touchdown.
Parsons credited Thomas for how he played, saying he had bought in during training camp and preseason.
“The more he keeps growing, the more he’s going to keep making a name for himself,” said Parsons.
Overall, he says the standard for adding and drafting the younger players on the team has not shown a drop-off during his time within the team.
“We kind of all share our wisdom, push each other to get better, we stay on each other. Whether you are a first-year guy, a 10-year guy, fifth-year guy, it doesn’t matter. I think everyone has the same standard and the same commitment,” said Parsons.
Parsons Says Cowboys Have Best Defense in the NFL
Dallas’ defense continued carrying momentum from Thomas’ play and “never let up.”
When asked what statement this game made, Parsons said, “I think we are making a statement which I’ve been trying to make: We are the best defense in the National Football League.”
Something Parsons says already shows improvement from last season for the unit because it showed that the team didn’t allow the Giants’ offense breathing room, saying the Cowboys’ defense “smothered” them.

Overall, the edge rusher says he saw coming before the game because it is a product of preparation meeting execution.
“We’ve already felt this. We already been to war before. We already knew the standard. We already knew what happened last year, what we’re capable of. It’s just about being capable and doing it every week,” said Parsons.
Although he acknowledged it was a great start of the season by the team, Parsons knows it’s about consistency, and they have to “keep it going.”
Cowboys’ Offseason Work Paid Off in Week 1
Parsons says the work displayed by the defense during Sunday Night Football was a product of the offseason work that was put in.
“I think it just all started with the offseason at camp. Everyone came in with a preparation, a mindset that we was going to dominate. We know that these games depend on us, and I think we really vowed keyed in honed in this week and we prepared to the max, and we was ready for our opponent, and we just got to keep that going,” said Parsons.
The 24-year-old mentioned the Cowboys pushing each other to be better, saying, “I don’t think there was a day out there that we try to take off. Everyone wants to push each other, and we all said that was the best camp we all had together. We know each other, we know how each other rush, and it’s just going up from here.”
