‘Bama Offered Me’ – Micah Parsons Confesses To Receiving an Offer From Alabama To Play Running Back

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons recently revealed on a podcast that he nearly became a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide -- as a running back.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the best defensive players in the NFL. On Monday, Feb. 3, he released an episode of “The Edge with Micah Parsons,” with guest and Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. on the show. The two talked about all kinds of things in the football world, including an interesting offer Parsons received from Alabama.

Micah Parsons Discusses Getting Offer From Alabama To Play Running Back

Parsons’ college career at Penn State lasted for three seasons, from 2018 to 2020, and there he won many accolades. However, his career was nearly very different as he talked about how he was offered to go to Alabama to play running back. The confession came after he asked what position James would play if he wasn’t a safety and said running back or wide receiver.

“Bama offered me to play running back,” Parsons said.

James did not hold back after Parsons made the confession.

“No way. You ain’t got no finesse though. I can’t see you as a running back, no offense bro. Like you all football. Like when they say basketball players that play like football players they describing you. Honestly bro.”

Parsons was jokingly offended about James’ stance on his ability to play running back, responding:

“Hold up. Have you seen my high school tape cuz?” Parsons said, to which James responded:

“I seen it. You just running everybody over, and you’re fast. I’ll give you that, you’re fast. Some people can’t catch you, but you got no wiggle. I’m just saying like, to me, a running back got to be like (acts like he’s moving back and forth). I feel like they’re going to take you out on third down. You a first-down, second-down running back.”

Whether it’s true or not that Parsons could have been a running back for the Alabama Crimson Tide, it’s unlikely that he would have had as much success as he has had as a linebacker.

While he’s only four seasons into his career, Parsons has already proven that he’s one of the best defensive players in the league. He was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and 2022. He was also second-team All-Pro in 2023 and has been named to the Pro Bowl in all four seasons of his career.
