The Miami Dolphins will have seven captains during the 2023 season, the club announced Monday — and the list should look quite familiar to close observers.
There was just one change from the 2022 list. Fullback Alec Ingold replaces Elandon Roberts. The other six names are among the biggest stars and most popular names on the roster.
Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday that the captains were voted on by the players.
“That’s one of the reasons it’s an honor for each and every one of those guys,” he added.

- Tua Tagovailoa: The fourth-year quarterback is a captain for the second time. Tagovailoa, the undisputed leader of the offense, is coming off a career year in which he set personal bests in yards (3,548), touchdowns (25), yards per attempt (8.9), and passer rating (105.5).
- Tyreek Hill: The four-time All-Pro wants to set both the NFL single-season receiving yards record and become the first player to top 2,000 yards in a season.
- Terron Armstead: No player has more credibility from a leadership standpoint than the 2022 Miami Dolphins’ Good Guy Award winner. If Armstead can play 17 games, the Dolphins will likely be a playoff team.
- Christian Wilkins: The Dolphins’ NFLPA player rep was asked to consult with coaches and officials when the decision was made to suspend Dolphins-Jaguars when Daewood Davis suffered a scary injury.
- Xavien Howard: The longest-tenured member of the Miami Dolphins roster is searching for his first playoff victory.
- Jevon Holland: There’s no more apt face of the next generation of Dolphins stars than Holland, who some believe is in line for a monster year in Vic Fangio’s defense.
- Alec Ingold: Any conversation about the NFL’s top fullback must include Ingold, who signed a three-year extension with the team last week.
