Could Miami Dolphins Trade Tyreek Hill and Replace Him With $15.8 Million WR?

Could the Miami Dolphins trade Tyreek Hill? A blockbuster move may be brewing in South Beach, with Miami eyeing a $15.8M WR to replace its superstar playmaker.

Is Tyreek Hill’s time with the Miami Dolphins running out? Just three years after arriving in South Florida in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Dolphins’ superstar receiver has found himself at the center of trade speculation.

Following a frustrating 2024 season that saw Miami miss the playoffs and Hill post his lowest receiving total since 2019 (a season where he only played 12 games), questions about his long-term future with the team have become a major topic of discussion this offseason.

While the Dolphins and Hill both denied rumors about him requesting a trade, his postseason comments hinted at some frustration and possibly wanting to play elsewhere. Whether he was just venting after missing the playoffs or signaling something bigger remains to be seen, but if Miami is willing to listen to offers, there will be no shortage of teams interested in the explosive wideout.

Is Tyreek Hill on the Move? Dolphins WR Reveals His 2025 Plans

Currently 30 years old, Hill remains one of the most exciting playmakers in the NFL. Even with a down year in 2024, his game-changing speed and ability to stretch the field make him an asset any team would love to have. Hill recently made his commitment to Miami clear on a Super Bowl special episode of “Pro Football Talk” by stating he wanted to play for the Dolphins next year.

Despite what he said, Hill was clearly frustrated with some of Miami’s offensive struggles in 2024, ending the season with an Offense+ grade of 76.3 (C).

The Dolphins finished 20th in points per drive, as Tua Tagovailoa’s inconsistency and durability concerns created instability; when Tagovailoa was out, the offense completely collapsed, averaging just 13.3 points per game and -0.23 EPA per play.

The Dolphins’ front office now faces a difficult decision on whether they should keep Hill and hope for a rebound or if they should move on from their top offensive weapon and try to reshape their offense. If they end up choosing the latter, they might already have a replacement in mind.

Could Deebo Samuel Sr. Be Hill’s Successor in Miami?

One name that has been frequently mentioned in trade talks recently is San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. Samuel would also bring familiarity to Miami’s system, as he previously played under head coach Mike McDaniel in San Francisco.

Seth Trachtman of Yardbarker floated a potential Samuel successor story in Miami, saying, “Samuel has often been mentioned on the trade block in San Francisco, and this could finally be the year he’s moved with the 49ers sporting plenty of wideout depth. Miami could use more offensive weapons, and Samuel would remain in the same offense as former 49ers assistant Mike McDaniel.”

His skill set differs from Hill’s significantly — while Hill relies on elite speed to take the top off of defenses, Samuel is a physical, yards-after-catch specialist who can be utilized in a variety of ways. If the Dolphins want to take a more balanced approach on offense, Samuel could provide a different but equally dynamic threat.

Financially, acquiring Samuel would be a much more manageable move. His contract would carry a $15.8 million cap hit in 2025, significantly lower than Hill’s deal. For a team that needs to improve in multiple areas, making this swap could free up flexibility while keeping their offense explosive, and with how loaded the 49ers are at receiver, this might finally be the year they decide to move on from Samuel.
