MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — With De’Von Achane officially out for at least four weeks with a knee injury, the Miami Dolphins are adjusting at running back — again.
They have plenty of options — particularly after a significant roster move Wednesday.
From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!
Miami Dolphins Practice Report: RB Jeff Wilson Returns
Sixth-year running back Jeff Wilson practiced for the first time in some two months after spending the first five weeks of the season on injured reserve with a midsection injury.
The Dolphins will evaluate Wilson this week before determining whether to put him on the game-day roster Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
He has a three-week practice roster before the Dolphins need to make a decision on whether to activate him, but Wilson, by all accounts, is ready to return to action.
He would join a running back group that, while diminished with Achane on IR, is certainly not depleted.
Raheem Mostert — who will presumably slide back into the RB1 spot with Achane out — has 314 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 58 carries.

We’ll also likely see the return of Salvon Ahmed, who hasn’t played since Week 3 due to some combination of injury (groin) and coaches’ decision.
Ahmed was at practice on Wednesday. The Dolphins also have Chris Brooks, who could see fullback snaps with Alec Ingold dealing with some sort of a lower body injury. Ingold was in a walking boot Monday and did not practice Wednesday.
“That’s why we have a large group of very good running backs, because that’s kind of the nature of the position at times,” McDaniel said.

As for Achane, McDaniel did not provide clarity on how the rookie RB got hurt, the nature of the injury, whether he needs surgery, or if he will be back for the team’s Week 11 game against the Raiders — which is the soonest he can return. McDaniel did say putting Achane on IR wasn’t a “black or white decision.”
“There’s a finite timeline, and there’s the amount of players that you have to consider with the obligations to the whole roster,” McDaniel said. “These are all things that we, you know, heavily scrutinized to make sure that we’re doing right by both the player and the team.
And in this case, it was pretty sound after we worked through it, but that was the best scenario for all.”
A couple of other Dolphins injury notes from Wednesday:
- Linebacker Jaelan Phillips practiced, although McDaniel didn’t commit to having him available. The third-year pass rusher has missed the last two games with an oblique injury.
- Connor Williams did not practice. He’s been dealing with a groin issue but played all 54 snaps Sunday against the Giants.
