Miami Dolphins News: Cause for Concern With Terron Armstead?

Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead begins 2023 NFL training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead will spend the start of 2023 training camp the same way he spent almost all of the 2022 season:

    Trying to get right physically.

The Dolphins placed Armstead on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Tuesday, hours before they take the field for their first training camp practice of 2023.

Armstead missed four games in 2022 due to a series of injuries, the most serious being to his foot/toe. The Dolphins final injury report of the 2022/2023 season listed him also dealing with pec, knee, and hip issues.

Given those concerns and his injury history that long predates his time in Miami, it wasn’t a surprise that the Dolphins held Armstead out of OTAs and minicamps.

But having him miss training camp practices too — more than six months after the team’s final regular-season game? That’s a bit alarming.

Armstead hasn’t spoken to Miami reporters since last season but did appear recently on the NewOrleans.Football podcast, and said then that he did not have surgery but that he feels great.

When asked in late May if Armstead had surgery and if he will be ready for the start of training camp, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel replied:

“He’s been having a good offseason. I try to honor all the players with not really putting their business out on the street unnecessarily. I have no reservations about where he’s at. He has had his fill of watching practice, so he’s done everything in his power, and I look forward to seeing him in training camp. And I haven’t been given any reason to have hesitancy to this point at all.”

Armstead is one of four Dolphins players who will start camp on PUP. The others: Cornerback Nik Needham, offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn, and tight end Tanner Conner.

The Dolphins on Tuesday did activate cornerback Ethan Bonner off the non-football injury (NFI) list.
