Miami Dolphins News: The Return of Ndamukong Suh?

Will former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh become a current Miami Dolphins defensive tackle? Stay tuned.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Nearly nine years after making Ndamukong Suh the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history at the time, the Miami Dolphins might offer him a second — albeit much smaller — contract.

Suh was in town for a visit Wednesday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire, suggesting that the three-time All-Pro is mulling a late-season return to football.

Suh has not played since Super Bowl 57, in which he appeared as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. A defensive consultant for that Eagles team? Current Dolphins DC Vic Fangio.

NFL Media reported later Wednesday that no signing is imminent, but certainly, Suh will be a name to remember in case of injury.

How Would Ndamukong Suh Fit With Miami Dolphins

Suh is the third big-name, late-career front-seven defender tied to the Dolphins in recent weeks.

Jason Pierre-Paul spent the better part of four weeks with the team before his release on Monday. Pierre-Paul appeared in two games with the Dolphins but didn’t log a tackle in five defensive snaps.

Miami moved on from JPP after bringing back Melvin Ingram, who signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad last week. Ingram, like Suh, had a history with the team — but far more recent. He had six sacks in 17 games for Miami last year.

Suh last played for the Dolphins in 2017, which was his third and final year with the team. The Dolphins paid Suh $60 million for 15.5 sacks and 37 tackles for loss over the course of those three years.

If he ultimately returns to the Dolphins without a significant injury, he would be, at best, the team’s No. 3 defensive tackle, but probably not even that. The Dolphins could use rotational depth at that position, though, as Christian Wilkins and Zach Sieler have logged 709 and 686 of a possible 904 snaps this year.
