It’s been a busy start to the NFL offseason for the Miami Dolphins, who finished in second place in the AFC East behind the Buffalo Bills.
Miami Dolphins News Today
After a busy free agency period where the Dolphins were forced to pivot from proven veterans like Christian Wilkins, Jerome Baker, Emmanuel Ogbah, Xavien Howard, and Robert Hunt, Miami can now begin focusing on the second waves of free agency and the NFL Draft.
The Dolphins rebounded nicely from losing a myriad of veterans, adding depth and some starting replacements on more reasonable contracts. Of course, clearing all of this cap space is to work on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s extension this offseason.
Let’s recap the week of news for the Dolphins.
Dolphins Draft Big DT in Latest Mock Draft
In A.J. Schulte’s latest seven-round mock draft, the Dolphins use the No. 21 overall selection on Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II.
Schulte notes that it’s never easy to replace a defender like Wilkins, but Murphy is a prospect who projects well at the next level. While his skill set wasn’t always utilized to its complete potential at Texas, Murphy has the tools to be a disruptive force up front.
Still just 21 years old, Murphy was a three-year defensive lineman who played in 39 games with 16 starts. A promising pro day secured him a spot in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

FOX Sports Analyst Shockingly Suggests Dolphins Draft Tua Tagovailoa’s Replacement in Round 1
While many of Miami’s moves this offseason were to clear cap space for an upcoming extension for their franchise quarterback, one FOX Sports analyst doesn’t see that unfolding.
On the latest episode of The Joel Klatt Show, FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt explains that he doesn’t think Tagovailoa is the correct fit in Mike McDaniels’ offense.

“Not an indictment on Tua, but I like [Michael] Penix to Miami here,” Klatt said of what the Dolphins should do in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Michael Penix Jr. had a successful career at Washington, leading them to the national championship game in his final season. While all indications show that the Dolphins are committed to Tagovailoa, the NFL Draft is always capable of a few surprises.

WR Odell Beckham Jr. Meets With Miami
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on SportsCenter, the Dolphins met with free agent receiver Odell Beckham Jr. during the week. Yet, Miami is reportedly “unwilling” to overspend on a free agent.
“Odell Beckham met with the Miami Dolphins this past week, and I was told the Dolphins are definitely interested. It’s probably going to be at a price point that they’re going to have to figure out,” Fowler said. “So, they’re not willing to overspend at this point.”

Fowler explains that the Dolphins don’t have a lot of cash to spend. They currently roster Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but Miami definitely wants to pair them with a proven third WR.
While Beckham is not the same player who would routinely go over 1,000 receiving yards, he put up over 500 and three touchdowns with the Ravens last year.
