Miami Dolphins’ Murky RB Situation Gets Even Murkier With De’Von Achane, Salvon Ahmed Injuries

The Miami Dolphins' running back room might as well be the training room. On Tuesday, Salvon Ahmed became the latest Dolphins RB to land on injured reserve.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — There’s a good chance that Salvon Ahmed has played his final down for the Miami Dolphins.

Ahmed on Tuesday became the third Dolphins running back this season to land on injured reserve, a result of a foot injury suffered Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Dolphins filled the roster spot by signing wide receiver Robbie Chosen to their 53.

Ahmed, who re-signed a one-year deal as a free agent last spring, seems unlikely to be designated to return given the Dolphins’ roster situation (they’ve already used six of their eight IR/return designations this year) and his 2023 production (61 yards on 22 carries).

Miami Dolphins Place Salvon Ahmed on IR

Ahmed joins fellow running back Chris Brooks on IR. Brooks is eligible to return this week, although the Dolphins, up to this point, have not shown any urgency to do so.

That could change. Ahmed is unavailable, and De’Von Achane is very iffy to play against the Jets on Friday after aggravating a knee injury in Week 11 that landed him on IR for a month.

The Dolphins estimated that both Achane and Raheem Mostert (ankle/knee) would have been limited had they practiced Tuesday (Miami held a walkthrough).

That leaves one fully healthy running back on the Dolphins’ active roster: Jeff Wilson Jr.

But bringing back Brooks at this point would leave the Dolphins with just one IR/return spot with two and a half months until the Super Bowl. A more likely move if Achane cannot go Sunday: the Dolphins elevate Darrynton Evans, a 2020 Tennessee Titans third-round pick, from their practice squad.
