MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. not only would have practiced for the first time with the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday but would have done so without limitations.
That’s according to the team’s first injury report estimation ahead of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
Miami Dolphins Practice Report
Beckham seems poised to come off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as soon as this week. Wednesday was the first of a 21-day window the Dolphins have to evaluate Beckham in practice before they have to activate him or shut him down for the year.
But assuming all goes well, there’s a good chance Beckham will make his 2024 debut this week in Foxboro, Mass.
“We want to make sure people are ready when they go out on the football field,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said. “But he’s working very hard, not just to practice.”
Beckham signed with the team in the spring but did so with a preexisting condition. The Dolphins were aware that he was dealing with a knee injury that would keep him out of spring ball and perhaps part of training camp.
But when it became clear that Beckham, who has torn the same ACL twice, would not be ready in time for the season opener, the Dolphins kept him on PUP.
He’ll join a receiving room that has gotten just four catches for 56 yards in four games by players not named Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Beckham will catch passes in practice and presumably in Sunday’s game from Snoop Huntley, who will get the start in place of Tua Tagovailoa for the second straight week.
Both Beckham and cornerback Cam Smith (hamstring) appear to be full-go after missing the first four weeks.

The Dolphins will, however, be without outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips for this week and the rest of the season. He announced Wednesday that he’s suffered a season-ending knee tear.
The news was better for OT Terron Armstead, LB David Long Jr., and RB Raheem Mostert, who all would have practiced Wednesday after missing the Titans game due to injury.
